Our Name

Vier Leger draws its name from the term for the four primary guards of the Liechtenauer tradition.

"There are only four basic positions that are useful in combat; these are Ochs, Alber, Pflug and vom Tag" - Ringeck's commentary, from C. H. Tobler's outstanding book "Secrets of German Medieval Swordsmanship" published by Chivalry Bookshelf

For an excellent online introduction to the German Longsword, including the Four Guards, please see myArmoury.com's "Call to Arms".

The Vier Leger are a unifying feature across those works attributed to the Liechtenauer tradition - a sure foundation for the application of the longsword.
