Vier Leger is dedicated to exploring the medieval fighting traditions associated with the German Master Johannes Liechtenauer.
While our principal interest is the Longsword, we look forward to introducing aspects of Ringen (wrestling), Messer (knife), Spear, and Harnisfechten (armoured fighting).
We are a study group – a group of like-minded individuals meeting for study, practice and display – not an official school. Therefore we have no overheads, so there are no fees involved in training.
A group leader gives direction to our practice, which includes a warm-up, sword-work, and fitness training within each session.
The only equipment required to come along and try it out is a pair of sturdy gloves. If you choose to stay with us, you will need to purchase a training sword and later a fencing mask. Other protective gear will be required for those committing to long term study.
Our sessions are approached without role-play; however, we do believe that re-enactment and performance play a vital role in attracting people to our art, and in spreading interest and enthusiasm for it.
